Winter Wedding

When thinking about winter wedding, the obvious red and green color scheme may come to mind. However, if it’s off in shade and secondary colors, it may feel more like a holiday party than an elevated wedding theme. Bright fire truck red and emerald green can look a bit outdated and overwhelming, but it’s how you style it and adjust the shading to make it work.

Any “true” primary or secondary color will be a bold choice with personality and make a statement, but in a monochromatic setting, it can fall flat. The look needs balance, highs and lows paired with shades lighter and darker, dimension from complimentary colors, and a variety of textures.

Here, Kobi Cummings, the co-owner, art director and Certified Wedding Planner at the Valley Venues, shares some of her mood boards using classic holiday colors to help you craft your theme and color scheme for your winter weddings.

A Pearl In Winter

Winter Wedding

Seasonal patterns and textures like velvet and satin bring an element of refined luxury to winter weddings, especially with a more simple color palette. Here is Cumming’s “A Pearl in Winter” mood board; it showcases only three colors: dark olive, black and white. Textures and finishes like shiny pearls, soft twinkle lights and gold accents perfectly complement this palette. And add an element of interesting details that will shine throughout winter wedding. Olive green is used in this instance as almost a monochromatic color palette with pops of black and white to balance it out. As opposed to a true green, a warmer-toned version can be used here to create a cozy and charming ambiance. As seen in Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge’s wedding, the limited color palette gives a chic elegance that some have noted as “quiet luxury.”

Enchanted Forest

Winter Wedding

In this true monochromatic pallet presented by Cumming’s “Enchanted Forest” mood board, various shades of green are used to create levels and depth that exist in nature in various earth tones. Leaning into the forest theming, moodier versions of green are used here to create the mysterious fantasy. Using natural elements on this mood board will be key to achieving this look. Couples can even make it a fun date day by taking a walk outside and gathering their own pine cones and ornamental branches. Use them as table centerpieces and aisle decor for winter weddings, or get crafty with your finds and turn them into stunning foliage arches. Berry Bejeweled

Winter Wedding

Emerald, amethyst, ruby, sapphire, and amber are rich and will bring a luxurious, bold statement to winter weddings. These gemstone colors can add depth to every space, from the ceremony to the reception, with hints of each hue throughout. Here, the double-split complementary color palette works as these are all within the dark, cool spectrum. In Cumming’s “Berry Bejeweled” mood board, candles, glass and florals are used to bring pops of color. Luckily, many dark-toned blooms are in season, and other seasonal elements like evergreen sprigs and berries can be used, too. Run the World actress Bresha Webb married her TV writer husband Nick Jones Jr. using the berry-hued tones in the florals of their nuptials, as shown in this People Magazine exclusive.
